Sermon Series Ideas for 2027

sixteen ideas, each with the design direction I’d hand our designers

Here are 16 original sermon series ideas for 2027, laid out by the church calendar. Most lists stop at a title and a verse. That’s the easy part. The hard part is the Thursday before launch, when someone has to decide what the slide actually looks like.

So every idea below comes with a design style, a palette, a type pairing, and one visual idea to build the series around. Steal them, rename them, make them yours!

The 2027 church calendar at a glance

2027 has an early Easter, which means Lent sneaks up fast. Ash Wednesday lands on February 10, only a few weeks after most churches wrap their January series.

Want every date on one page? Grab our free 2027 church calendar. It has the full liturgical calendar plus the week to start planning each one. The style names below come from our guide to church design styles, so if “Organic” or “Line Art” is new to you, that page shows what each one looks like.

New Year Sermon Series Ideas

January people show up ready to start over. Give them something practical and a little hopeful.

1. Clear the Runway

Length: 4 weeks. Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-2. Big idea: You can’t take off with a cluttered runway. Name what’s weighing you down and let it go before the year gets loud.

Design direction: Minimalist/Clean. Concrete gray, white, and one signal orange. A wide grotesque sans in all caps with runway-style stencil numbers for each week. Visual idea: painted runway lines that stretch to the horizon, with the week number stenciled on the tarmac.

2. Fresh Ink

Length: 3 weeks. Scripture: Lamentations 3:22-23 and 2 Corinthians 5:17. Big idea: God’s mercy isn’t a correction fluid for last year. It’s a brand new page.

Design direction: Line Art. Cream paper, deep navy ink, a touch of blue-violet. A handwritten script paired with a clean serif. Visual idea: one continuous ink line that draws a sunrise, and the line gets a little longer each week.

Lent Sermon Series Ideas

With Ash Wednesday on February 10, you have six Sundays of Lent before Palm Sunday. Lent series work best when they slow people down. The design should too.

3. Dust

Length: 6 weeks. Scripture: Genesis 2:7 and Psalm 103:13-14. Big idea: We’re made from dust, and God still breathes life into dust. Our weakness is where His grace does its best work.

Design direction: Organic. Ash gray, bone, and charcoal with a muted plum. A soft, slightly worn serif. Visual idea: a real macro photo of ash or flour, with the title pressed into it like a fingerprint.

4. Less

Length: 5 weeks. Scripture: Matthew 6:16-21 and John 3:30. Big idea: Fasting, giving, and simplicity make room for more of Jesus. This one pairs well with a church-wide fast.

Design direction: Minimalist/Clean. Black and off white with one deep purple. A thin sans serif set very small in a lot of empty space. Visual idea: each week the title loses a letter or element, so the graphic literally gets emptier as Easter gets closer.

Easter Sermon Series Ideas

Easter is March 28, which is early. If you want printed invite cards, plan to approve the art by late January. Our print turnaround is usually 7 to 10 business days, and you want those cards in people’s hands 4 to 6 weeks before Easter. Most people come to church about twice a month, so it takes several Sundays to reach everyone.

5. Rolled Away

Length: 4 weeks, starting Palm Sunday. Scripture: Mark 16:1-8. Big idea: The women walked to the tomb worried about a stone that God had already moved. What are you worried about that He’s already handled?

Design direction: Modern/Professional. Warm limestone, sunrise gold, and deep olive. A strong modern serif. Visual idea: a heavy circle shape (the stone) pushed just off the edge of the frame, with light spilling in from the gap.

6. Back from the Dead

Length: 3 weeks, post Easter. Scripture: John 11, Luke 24, and Romans 6:4. Big idea: Easter isn’t one Sunday. It’s the start of a new life, and these weeks catch the guests who came back.

Design direction: Vintage/Retro. Faded red, mustard, and newsprint cream. A bold condensed headline face like an old newspaper extra. Visual idea: a front page headline that reads like breaking news, with a new “story” for each week.

Mother’s Day and Pentecost

These two land back to back in 2027, May 9 and May 16. You can run a standalone Mother’s Day message and launch a Pentecost series the next week, or pick one series that holds both.

7. Raised

Length: 3 weeks, starting Mother’s Day. Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:5 and Proverbs 31:25-30. Big idea: Faith is passed down by real people at kitchen tables. Honor the moms, grandmothers, and spiritual mothers who raised us, and include the people for whom this day is hard.

Design direction: Collage. Dusty rose, sage, and cream. A friendly serif with a typewriter accent. Visual idea: layered old family photos, recipe cards, and handwritten notes (bonus points if they’re from your own church family).

8. Breath

Length: 4 weeks, starting Pentecost. Scripture: Acts 2 and Ezekiel 37:1-14. Big idea: The same Spirit who breathed on dry bones breathes on ordinary people now. You weren’t meant to live this out on your own strength.

Design direction: Abstract/Geometric. Flame red, warm orange, and a deep midnight blue. A wide, airy sans serif. Visual idea: overlapping translucent shapes that move like wind, animated slowly for the screen loop.

Summer Sermon Series Ideas

Summer attendance moves around. Pick series where each week stands on its own, so the family who’s gone two Sundays doesn’t feel lost.

9. Songs for the Road

Length: 6 weeks. Scripture: Psalms 120 to 134 (the Songs of Ascent). Big idea: Israel sang these on the walk to Jerusalem. They’re travel songs for a people on the move, perfect for vacation season.

Design direction: Vintage/Retro. Sun-faded teal, coral, and sand. A rounded 70s display face. Visual idea: a road trip map or cassette tape, with each week as a “track” on the playlist.

10. At the Table

Length: 5 weeks. Scripture: Luke 5:27-32, Luke 7:36-50, Luke 19:1-10, Luke 24:28-35. Big idea: Jesus did some of His best work over a meal. Each week sits at a different table with Him.

Design direction: Organic. Terracotta, olive, linen, and warm wood. A relaxed serif with generous spacing. Visual idea: an overhead photo of a long table that fills up a little more each week. This one is great for pairing with a summer block party or small group cookout.

Fall Launch Sermon Series Ideas

Fall is the second new year for most churches. School is back, routines reset, and this is when you should launch the series that sets the vision.

11. Ground Floor

Length: 6 weeks. Scripture: Acts 2:42-47. Big idea: Back to the basics of what the early church actually did, and an easy on-ramp to groups and serving.

Design direction: Branded/Corporate. Your church’s own colors and fonts, used confidently. Visual idea: blueprint grid lines and architectural markings over your building or logo, so the series feels like a construction plan for the year.

12. Rhythms

Length: 4 weeks. Scripture: Mark 1:35, Mark 6:31, and Matthew 11:28-30. Big idea: Rest, prayer, work, and community need a rhythm, not a resolution. Help people build a week that actually works.

Design direction: Abstract/Geometric. Navy, cream, and a bright mint. A monospaced font for the week labels. Visual idea: a weekly calendar grid turned into a pattern of repeating shapes, like a soundwave.

13. Love Thy Neighbor (Seriously)

Length: 4 weeks. Scripture: Luke 10:25-37. Big idea: The person next door is not an accident. This series pairs with a serve weekend or local outreach.

Design direction: Playful/Fun. Bright yellow, tomato red, and sky blue. A chunky rounded sans. Visual idea: illustrated mailboxes, porches, and fences that look like your actual neighborhood.

Advent Sermon Series Ideas

Advent begins Sunday, November 28, 2027, which gives you four Sundays before Christmas Eve on a Friday. Start the art in September so you have time for invite cards, banners, and the Christmas Eve program.

14. Not Yet

Length: 4 weeks. Scripture: Isaiah 9:2-7 and Luke 2:25-38. Big idea: Simeon and Anna waited their whole lives. Advent teaches us how to wait well when the answer hasn’t come yet.

Design direction: Classic. Deep evergreen, candle gold, and cream. A traditional serif with small caps. Visual idea: four candles where one more is lit each week, shot with real flame and soft focus.

15. Lights On

Length: 4 weeks. Scripture: John 1:1-14. Big idea: The Light came into the darkness, and the darkness couldn’t put it out. A great fit for churches that go big on Christmas Eve.

Design direction: Edgy/Experimental. Near black, electric warm white, and a hint of red. A neon-style script over a condensed sans. Visual idea: a tangle of real Christmas lights that spells the title when it’s plugged in.

16. Home for Christmas

Length: 4 weeks. Scripture: Luke 2:1-20 and Luke 15:11-24. Big idea: Jesus left home so we could come home. This one speaks right to the guest who hasn’t been to church in years.

Design direction: Vintage/Retro. Cranberry, forest green, and kraft paper brown. A nostalgic hand-lettered script. Visual idea: a vintage postcard with a front porch light on, and a matching postcard invite you can actually mail.

A great series title gets people curious. A great series design makes them remember it on Wednesday.

Real sermon series we’ve designed

Ideas are great. Here’s what it looks like when a church takes one all the way to the screen. These are series our team designed for churches we work with.

Try an annual theme

Some churches go a step past series and pick a theme for the whole year. One of our churches does this every January. They pick a verse, give it a short phrase, and that phrase shows up everywhere: lobby walls, volunteer shirts, the first series of the year, even their church birthday celebration.

An annual theme gives every series that year a home. Your Lent series, your fall launch, even your volunteer gifts can all point back to one idea. If you try it, pick the theme by October so the art is ready for the first Sunday in January.

How we plan sermon series months ahead

Every Enduo plan includes scheduled creative meetings on Zoom with your creative director. Depending on your plan that’s quarterly, every other month, or monthly. We pull up the church calendar together and map out what’s coming, usually three to six months ahead.

In a fall meeting we’ll talk through Christmas details, then start the Easter conversation. Yes, Easter planning starts in November! With an early Easter like 2027’s, that lead time is the difference between a calm Holy Week and a frantic one.

Creative director tip

Bring three things to your planning meeting: the book or theme, how many weeks, and one word for how you want people to feel. That’s enough for a designer to start. Everything else, we can figure out together.

Once the series is designed, we turn it into a full set of graphics for screens, social, and print. On our Standard and Premium plans we also build editable Canva templates, so your staff can swap in sermon titles and dates without breaking the look.

Sermon series questions

How long should a sermon series be?

Most of ours land between 3 and 6 weeks. Four weeks is the sweet spot for a lot of churches. Longer series, like a full book study, work too. Just plan a fresh graphic or a subtitle halfway through so it doesn’t feel stale.

When is Easter in 2027?

Easter is Sunday, March 28, 2027. Palm Sunday is March 21 and Ash Wednesday is February 10. That’s early, so start your Easter design in December.

How far ahead should we plan sermon series?

Three to six months is ideal. That gives you time to design, revise, and print without a rush fee. Christmas and Easter need the most runway because of invite cards, banners, and extra services.

Do we need a new design for every series?

For main series, yes. It tells your congregation something new is starting. For one-off Sundays, a branded template works great. That’s where editable Canva templates save a lot of time.
