We make a version of this calendar every year for our own team. At the end of every creative meeting with our churches, we pull it up and ask one question: “Is there anything else coming up?” It’s the simplest planning habit we have, and it catches something almost every time. So this year we cleaned it up and made it free for everybody.
What’s in the 2027 church calendar
Page one is the whole year at a glance. Every key date is color coded, so you can see the shape of your year in about five seconds.
- Purple: Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Advent, and Christmas
- Yellow: the church calendar, like Epiphany, Pentecost, and World Communion Sunday
- Blue: holidays your people are living through, like Mother’s Day and Thanksgiving
- Gray: seasons and time changes. Yes, Daylight Saving matters when your 9:00 service suddenly feels like 8:00.
Page two is the part I’m most excited about. Every date gets a “start by” week next to it. That’s the week to start on series art, invite cards, print, and social, so nothing ends up being designed on a Thursday night.
The date on the calendar isn’t your deadline. The date you need to start is your deadline.
2027 church calendar dates to know
2027 has a few quirks worth knowing now. Easter is early. Valentine’s Day, the Fourth of July, and Halloween all land on Sundays. Christmas Eve is a Friday. Here are the big ones for US churches.

The 2027 liturgical calendar
The 2027 church year started with Advent on November 29, 2026, and it’s Year B in the Revised Common Lectionary. Lent begins February 10, Easter is March 28, Pentecost is May 16, and Advent begins November 28.

Why Easter 2027 sneaks up on everybody
Easter 2027 is March 28. That means Lent starts February 10, just a few weeks after the New Year rush. If you wait until “after the holidays” to think about Easter, you’ll have about eight weeks. That’s not enough time to plan a series, design it, print invite cards, and give your people a month to hand them out.
I like to tell churches that the day after Christmas is about 100 days until Easter. In 2027 it’s even less, about 90. Here’s what we recommend instead.
- Early DecemberPick your Easter direction. Series name, big idea, and the feeling you want.
- Mid JanuaryGet the art approved. Slides, social, and print all come from this.
- End of JanuaryOrder invite cards and printed pieces. Print takes 7 to 10 business days, plus shipping.
- Mid FebruaryStart handing out invites, 4 to 6 weeks before Easter. Most people come to church about twice a month, so you need several Sundays to reach everyone.
Make Holy Week its own moment. Hammock Street Church turned Good Friday into a walk-through experience, and attendance roughly doubled, from about 80 to 160. For Ravenswood Baptist, we designed a newspaper for Holy Week called the “Holy Week Chronicle,” so Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter felt like one story. Ideas like these take time to plan and print, which is one more reason to start early.
Canada, UK, and South Africa editions
We work with churches outside the US, and a US calendar just doesn’t fit them. So each edition has its own holidays built in.

Questions about the 2027 church calendar
When is Easter in 2027?
Easter Sunday 2027 is March 28. Palm Sunday is March 21, Good Friday is March 26, and Ash Wednesday is February 10.
When does Advent start in 2027?
The first Sunday of Advent 2027 is November 28, the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Christmas Eve is Friday, December 24.
When is Pentecost in 2027?
Pentecost Sunday 2027 is May 16. Ascension Day is Thursday, May 6, the same day as the National Day of Prayer.
What lectionary year is 2027?
In the Revised Common Lectionary, the church year that starts November 29, 2026 is Year B. Year C starts with Advent on November 28, 2027.
Is this a Catholic liturgical calendar?
No. It’s built for Protestant and evangelical churches. It includes the major liturgical dates most churches observe, plus the holidays churches plan around. Catholic parishes should use their national bishops’ conference calendar for feast days.
